Last week my plates and bowls were featured on Great British Menu! It was so exciting to see my pots on TV!
In August chef Andi Tuck (from Harbour House Flushing) asked if I could make some plates and bowls for him. He was preparing to go on Great British Menu for the second time and wanted some custom tableware for specific dishes. It was interesting to hear how he had it all planned out, already in August he knew what complex dishes he wanted to cook late October and how he wanted to serve it.
The theme of Great British Menu this year was the Olympics. For his starter “An opening ceremony to beet!” Andi asked me to make plates to be put in a wooden cauldron representing the Olympic flame. This was set alight when served, which made it look spectacular. So good to finally see the food, plate, cauldron and fire come together.
I also made mini bbqs, which were used to serve meat for his main course. The first sample had little feet to rest the grill on, but we soon realised they weren’t needed and the grill could just rest in the bowl. I also made a glaze with ash from Andi (he uses open fire all the time), but after sampling this we decided to glaze the BBQs with a wild clay glaze instead.
It was so exciting to work on this and really hard to keep quiet about it. So happy I can share it with you now! It was amazing to see it all come together on tv. Well done Andi!
